Friday morning we packed up and hit the road at 10am headed to Tomball Texas for the Oktoberfest Obliteration, hosted by Crossfit Champion. I have competed in this competition the past 2 years, this one being my 3rd. 2 years ago I came in 3rd, last year I came in 1st and this year I went back to defend my title (see pic below, Chelsea Lewis in 2nd and 2012nGames Competitor Candice Ruiz in 3rd)! This year the elite athletes’s competition was 2 days; 1 WOD on Friday evening and the other 3 WODs on Saturday (at the same place Regionals was held 3 years ago…oh the memories #Sahara)

FRIDAY

WOD 1 (Part 1) – “The 70% Rule”

7min AMRAP

7 Clusters @ 70% of Body Weight (100# For Me)

7 Chest To Bar Pull Ups

When I walked in and saw a lot of my friends from other boxes, my nerves increased in a good way. I was about to workout not with just some friends of mine, but with some BAD ASS women! It was this competition last year that we all started developing friendships, starting seeing who was going to be a “regular” at these things. Now are are all good friends and keep up with each other even living miles apart. Why can’t every sport be like this? (pic was taken Saturday, oh well)

When I saw C2B I almost DIED…starting off with a weakness?? ARE YOU KIDDING ME…your lucky I like clusters…and my endurance isn’t bad…could be better, but isn’t bad. Since the clusters were 70% of our body weight, I had to weigh in…yikes, now I know what my clients feel like. I weighed 144#. Not as bad as I thought, but I still want it a little lower, without losing strength. I did all my clusters as singles…dropped it and picked it right backup. My 1st set of C2B was unbroken, then it was 3-2-2 after that. I finished that WOD with 77 points.

I took 2nd (to Janet Black) in that WOD

WOD 1 (Part 2) – “The Longest Mile”

1 Mile Run For Time

We had 1 min from the time the clocked stopped on the 7min AMRAP, to the time the clocked started for the mile. During this shortest min EVER, I changed from lifting shoes to running shoes. Then I ran a 7:04 mile. Clearly I need to work on my mile skills and where my energy is going. Blah!

I took 3rd in this WOD

SATURDAY

WOD 2 – “Drop It”

For time:
50 Wall Ball Shots (m:20lb,w:14lb)
40 Toes to Bar
30 Step Back Lunges (m:135lb,w:95lb)
15 Hang Power Clean & Overhead (m:155lb,w:105lb)
(12 minute cut-off)

All I saw on this WOD is Toes To Bar…another weakness of mine. The other “stuff” never worried me. I did 30/20 on wall ball. I did a set of 10 on T2B, then survived the rest. I did 20/10 on the Lunges and then I forgot the break up of the Hg Pwr Cl. What was harder than I thought  was we had a male bar to use during this (as well as on Friday). I finished in 7:42, taking 3rd in this WOD.

WOD 3 – “Dumbbell Darlings”

For time:
50 DB Man-Makers (m:50lb,w:35lb)
(7 minute cut-off)

Ohhhh this workout. As I was walking up to the area where this WOD was, I told my mom, “This is going to be the worst 7mins of my life” in which she reminded me of 11.1, 7mins of Burpees…1 point mom! I knew I just had to move through this. Don’t stop, don’t let go of the bells, just move. And I did just that. I stepped back and up every time and never let go of the bells. I got 46 of the 50 in this 7mins, taking 2nd in the WOD.

WOD 4 – “Slip-N-Slide”

AMRAP in 10 minutes:
3 Power Snatch (m:155lb,w:105lb)
120 ft Sled Push (m:100lb,w:70lb) (60ft down, 60ft back)

Now I know I’m not good at high reps, med weight power snatches…period end of story (what is that the 3rd weakness I have mentioned in this post, geeze). I went into this WOD with a 6 point lead…thank goodness! I warmed up and 105 didn’t seem that bad, however when I got out there, it felt like a million pounds, no kidding! I’m going to blame the male bar for this…just kidding…kinda. We had to perform 3 power snatches then push a 70# sled down and back. Lets just say I tied Janet Black for 6th in this WOD.

After all the scores were added in, I saved my title and took 1st place (by 1 point), Judy from Crossfit Central, took 2nd place and 2013 Games Competitor Jen Jones took 3rd. All in all it was a great competition and like always AWESOME to see many of my friends who I don’t get to workout with regularly! #LuckyLuLu All results can be found HERE!
