GS#2Last Wednesday I helped Girl Scout Troop 2288 earn their Stay Fit Badge and man was it fun! One of my athletes is a Troop Leader of Girl Scout Troop that her daughter is a part of. She asked me back in November if I would be willing to come out and teach her troop about staying fit and my answer was a thousand times yes…what a GREAT opportunity! I get to go teach about something I’m so passionate about to young women…I’m in!

I met the troop and their leader on the school’s campus. We walked over to the field and set up shop. Having been cooped up all day inside they were a little excited to be outside. I introduced myself and we had a brief conversation about the importance of exercise…then we got to moving. We did all movements that they would do on a playground; just got them moving. I brought my marker board and drew out all the faces on the cards (Ace, King, Queen, Jacks, Hearts, Diamonds, Spades, and Clubs). The girls gave each “face” a movement (i.e. Squats, lunges, planks, push ups, etc). Then I let each girl draw a card from the deck of cards and they had to tell their fellow troop mates what the card was and how to do it. They LOVED this! PLUS it gave them something simple to do and they could teach their family this “game”.

After we talked about exercising and did some exercising, there was snack. They had cuties, bananas, and raw veggies with little bottles of water. While they were eating we talked about nutrition and why it was important to have good nutrition. I talked a little about Protein, Fats and Carbs and what their roles were in the body, but REALLY focused on veggies; what veggies were they currently eating? Were they trying new things? Surprisingly this girls knew ALOT of veggies…I was beyond impressed with them.

I closed informing them that they were full of knowledge to go help others lead a healthy lifestyle…and they are! Thank you Girl Scout Troop #2288…I enjoyed revisiting a piece of my past!
