Port A or Bust

Port A or Bust

Let me tell you a little bit about the time we decided to camp on the beach. Early Saturday morning, Lou, Michaela (M), and myself loaded up in to Lou’s jeep (Lou driving, M navigating and me sleeping in the back) and headed south for Port A to camp on the beach! We had an ice chest full of food/booze, blankets, towels, a tent, cute little lantern, floaties…what else could we possible need? Well let me tell you…

About 30ish minutes out of our camp site we stopped at IHOP for a decent breakfast (good move, highly recommend) since we just had a lot of “snacky” things for the next 24 hours. Once we finished a good breakfast and got coffee to go (well I did) we drove some more and after only 2 trips (up and down) the beach we found a place to park the jeep and set up a tent…home sweet home.

We set the tent up in less than 30mins without any issues (pros). We put out our welcome mat…changed into our swimsuits, applied sunscreen (kinda), blew up the floaties, made a drink and took off on a walk down the beach! It was a little cloudy which means it wasn’t blazing hot, but it also meant that the sun was going to roast us…and it did. After a trip or two up and down the beach we returned to our tent for snacks, uno and a nap.

We woke and realized how bad we smelled so we walked to the OUTDOOR showers (like no walls) to rinse off and attempt to smell better. We walked backed to the tent and put on real clothes because we were told we HAD to go to Bernie’s. After a quick “photoshoot” on the beach, we took off on our mile walk to this place.

We arrived at Bernies and it was dead. This was suppose to be “the place” but it was DEAD inside. So we came up with some quarters and started attempting to play pool (which reminded me how HORRIBLE I am) with a bunch of random people, some were locals and some were from out of town. We did meet a really nice guy named Chuck who had far greater beliefs in our pool playing potential abilities than we did. He might have a different opinion after a few games.

After a few games of pool, we turned around and the place was starting to get PACKED…including the dance floor! So of course we headed in that direction and proceeded to dance our TAILS OFF with all kinds of people to all kinds of music. The place was a good enough size where if us gals got separated from each other, it wasn’t long till we found each other again. We met a lot of really fun people and had a BLAST.

When they kicked everyone out due to closing (not our dancing abilities) and reality kicked in that we had a mile walk back to our camp site that didn’t have an address that we could put in google maps (dropping a pin would have been a great idea, too late). We must have looked really lost (we were) because after a few mins of wandering down the street a golf cart pulled up with some folks we had met earlier and even with our bad directions they managed to get us back to our tent. After lots of laughs on the beach and going to see God (inside joke), we crawled in the tent to go to sleep at an ungodly hour (it was before the sun came up). This is where an air mattress/sleeping pad or 2 would have come in hand, but noooooo we were going to camp ON the beach so that was left off the packing list….but next time that along with more blankets will be at the top.

We woke around 8:30am and could barley move…I’m too old to be sleeping on sand. We packed up everything…SO. MUCH. SAND…loaded everything in the jeep and went in search of breakfast (Cracker Barrel) and drove home. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY, especially with those ladies.

My Personal Training Warm-Up

I have been in the fitness industry for over ten years now and have had the privilege to work with a variety of clients and I think I finally created a great warm-up combo. I use this with ALL my clients, but of course adjusting to their abilities/injuries/etc. You would do ALL of this before you started your actual workout, which takes about 20-25mins. The Kettlebell one is just bonus if are using that in your training.*Click on the PDF to download*

And The Winner Is…

And The Winner Is…

For the record…I’m posting this because in reality its pretty silly the amount of time I have put into making this decision. I just thought I would share with y’all all the research that went into me picking a new case for my iphone 6 incase you ever get stuck in my position.  THANK YOU for your input! If “things” are in italics its because that is what someone said on my FB thread when I asked.

Tech 21

  • Not a lot of patterns/designs, just colors…
  • Many items have “FlexShock™, a unique material which absorbs and dissipates shock away from your device when dropped, means the super slim Evo Endurance provides impact protection from drops of 2m/6.6ft.”
  • Evo Xplorer Case is the only waterproof
  • Tech 21, thin, sticks to things (wont slide off things) and I have dropped my phone a million times, never had an issue. Still in one piece. “
  • I have a Tech 21 and I love it!!! And I usually hate phone covers but it’s super light weight and has saved my phone a ton of times!
  • I have the folio case from Tech21. Light but it keeps my phone’s safe. Plus I don’t need to carry a wallet. Love it.
  • I had 2 life proof cases and both fell apart. Not a great brand. I have tried Otter. They are okay. But, my friend got me a tech 21 case. I used it my last year living in Africa and dropped that phone a million times. I’m back in Texas now and LOVE that case. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve dropped my phone and it works amazing. Best $40 spent!
  • Tech 21. Forever! Ive never used any other cover and have never replaced any of my smart phones that I’ve dropped a trillion times! Plus it’s nice and slim

Otterbox

  • Different types: MySymmetry, Computer, Defender, Folio
  • Has Drop Proof Protection
  • I have an Otterbox…you know how I am with my phones. Lol. It’s kept mine alive so far.
  • My otterbox commuter has saved my phone against a two year old. It’s dropped basically every day. Plus they have a lifetime warranty. If it breaks, file a claim and they send you a new one.
  • I’ve strayed many times, but have always returned to the Otterbox Defender. It’s bulky and inelegant, but it suits my clumsy lifestyle (also 3 kids) perfectly. It is truly indestructible.
  • Otterbox!!
  • Otterbox Commuter case. It takes me about 3 years to destroy one. They have a great warranty program, even if you don’t purchase directly from them. The screen protector is the best available. The plastic outer shell doesn’t get stuck in your pocket like rubber shelled cases. I am VERY hard on my cases. My current case has been run over on a rock top road and kept my phone intact.
  • Otterbox Commuter. Thin, great protection. Haven’t lost a screen in years with one of these on. I do love the Mophie but the little micro USB connectors kept getting loose and not charging. I went through 3 of them before I gave up and now carry portable batteries. They have the benefit of charging my other devices also.

Mophie

  • Options depend on how much battery do you want? Do you want it slim?
  • There is a red, rose gold & teal one HERE (Cheaper on mophie site)
  • Mophies don’t use normal iphone chargers
  • They have an awesome charging stand
  • My magnet that holds my phone in my car wouldn’t work with this.
  • 100%. Mophie. The extra battery is indisputable.
  • Agreed!

Seido

  • Looks a little too “bulky” for my liking
  • Seidio. Works very well.

Jimmy Case

  • Little too masculine for my taste
  • Elastic Wallet feature is neat
  • Not a lot of shock/water protection…like zero
  • I have a jimmy case. I keep all my cards and ID in the pocket so I don’t have to carry around a wallet anymore.

Spec Clear Case

  • Not ideal if you are looking for a “fun” case
  • Does not seem to offer a drop protection feature
  • I usually accidentally throw or drop my phone at least twice a day.. that being said I just use a speck clear case and a glass screen protector (both you can get at Best Buy) Recently upgraded but my iPhone 6 I had for almost three years and it still looks new.And if I need it to be waterproof, hitting the Greenbelt or whatever I put it in a ziplock baggy which is the thinnest waterproof housing on the market and it can still read your print to unlock

Power Bear

  • Seems to be really popular with samsung
  • Power bear!! Battery case. So badass

Magpul Case

  • Little too masculine for me
  • Magpul case. Slim and hardy. Withstands my two toddlers but not good if you drop it in water.

Body Glove

  • Not a lot of options and the one they have seems to be out of stock
  • Bodyglove with slide to store ID and debit card.

My Thoughts:

  • I REALLY use my magnet in my car to hold my phone.
  • I have an external battery…its rose gold and white
  • I have never had a fun pattern on my iphone, its always been boring life proof…thats what I get for being clumsy.
  • I love me some red, but is it too masculine? nah.
  • I can get a pretty mophie case later.
  • My phone is silver.

After lots of thoughts and research…I decided to go with THIS case and THIS glass covering I ordered both from Amazon. Thank you for all your advice and tolerating me quizzing you about your case…this is my first time to ever have a “fun case”. Buh Bye Lifeproof…

You are welcome Amanda LOL

Meal 1 Hulk Cakes
Meal 2 Crispy Coconut Chicken
Meal 3 CHICKEN & ZUCCHINI POPPERS
Meal 4 ZUCCHINI PASTA WITH SUN-DRIED TOMATO CREAM AND CHICKEN
Meal 5 Paleo Pizza Potato Skins

Favorite: I’m a huge fan of the hulk cakes (be careful, there is a lot of spinach in that thing). I’m really excited for the pasta because I know I ate a few spoonfuls of that sauce as well as the stuff that went into the paleo pizza potato skins.

Side note: I know I broke all “unwritten official paleo rules” by using regular potatoes but I think you will be okay 🙂

Changes: Meal 5 – ask you to cook the potatoes a few times turning them over and over, well I just baked them once because I know y’all will reheat them and I don’t want the pepperonis to get over cooked! I had a few bites of that sauce and it is bomb!

Current (and potential new clients): I’m looking to make some upgrades to this service (yes get excited), but I need your feedback to know what y’all want. PLEASE take a moment to answer THIS survey (10 questions). Your answers are anonymous, so give me the good bad and the ugly…please and thank you!
