On April 23rd I attened the Level 1 Crossfit Cert in Dallas! This was a lot of fun and helpful. It wasn’t only helpful for me as a coach but as an athlete as well. I was taught, corrected and encouraged to fix things to help myself and others.

Any ways before I left I got a set of Toni Robbins cds from Lisa. I’m still currently working through these but it was a really AWESOME thing to have on the road…except for the part where I had to write goals, some how I managed and I can always go back and listen to the CDs. This has a whole other blog post written all over it…that was a warning.

I arrived to Amanda’s casa late. After a short visit it was off to dreamland to see what Day 1 held. I was up and at ’em to find the cert location…then coffee. Lucky for me, and according to my GPS Crossfit Strong was 1.8mi from Amanda’s casa. I found coffee then went back. We got set up and started. There was lecture and movement. I did soooo much with a PVC pipe it was crazy…not to mention rough on the muscles…who knew an 5ft 8oz 1″ could make me hurt so good! LOL! Any ways…before we broke for lunch we did a tabata squat workout. My score was 20, my highest number was 21 and that was the first set for those that understand tabata workouts. We went to lunch then back for more learning, ending the day with “Fran”…21-15-9 Thrusters and Pull-ups. Shoot me….however I did create a new PR for Fran of 4:28!! As Chuck, one of the cert leaders explained. When you are in a gym, what is the “manly qustion” that determines your status? Correct me if I am wrong but its “whats your bench?”…am I right? For those that don’t crossfit, the “whats your bench question” is “whats your Fran time?”. After that I head back to Amanda’s to study and recover.

The next day was full of more lecture and movement and a team workout! Then a test! I think the cert went well. There are some minor things they could improve on, but I will save that for them. As you can tell by the title of this entry, I passed my cert and I’m officially a Level 1 CrossFit Trainer!!!

Thanks Lisa Klein!

Thanks Lisa Klein!

On Tuesday April 13th my 5:30am Crossfit class took on “Bear”. Whats the Bear Complex? Well it is the following:

*Do 5 rounds increasing weight each time*

7 Reps without letting go of the bar: Squat Clean to Overhead,Backsquat to Overhead

If you are thinking “ouch” you are correct. With the encouragement from my classmates and coach I was able to attempt 95lbs. I struggled when bring it into overhead from the backsquat, but I had no fear from trying. Having this fear lead me to “tweeking” my neck a little. By the end of Tuesday I was unable to look in my blind spots. After I trained one of my clients, I went insearch of a therapist but they were all booked (becuase they are awesome). I went back to work for a little bit then on my way out I spotted Lisa Klein, a therapist at The Hills. Lisa just passed her cert and is able to offer this service. I have known many who have been taped and swear by it. I always thought there is no way a few pieces of tape placed a certain way can make you feel better. However on Tuesday I was open and willing to try anything to fix my pain. She placed me on her table and pressed on a few places and discovered it was my left upper trap that was injured. I picked a color of tape and she taped me and in 10mins I was out the door. No joke by Wednesday I started to gain more range of motion in my neck by Wednesday evening I was able to look in my blind spot no problem! I thought WOW, this is AWESOME!!! I left the tape on there till this past friday, only taking it off because I attended an event on Friday evening and I didn’t want it to show (bright blue tape under a cocktail dress wasn’t really that cute). Click here for more info about Kinesio Tape. Also don’t hesitate to contact Lisa Klein at texaspremier@juno.com. She is a Nationally Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner (CKTP).

Happy Birthday Duke

Happy Birthday Duke

I cannot believe that Duke is already a year old. When I brought him home May 30th (now known as “Duke Day”) at 7 weeks old, 12lbs I knew he would be an awesome dog. Now one year old and 80lbs he is still awesome and the love in my life…not to leave out SPOILED ASS ROTTEN! LOL! There are times I think my parents love him more than me! I am looking forward to many more years of spoiling Guinness Duke of Pierce! GB Gave him a pool full of toys! I’m anxious to see how he does when there is water in it this summer! He loves his GB!

Easter 2010

Easter 2010

There are no pictures of me in my dress. BUT there are pictures of my sweet baby boy going through his Easter Basket…sorry but I have to share….
Official!

The Easter Bunny was Paleo…right?

Well I have been searching for ways to create a healthy particularly paleo Easter basket. Since most things need to be prepared it doesn’t leave much. Since the stuff that goes in Easter basket is mostly “sweet” stuff here is what I found that classifises as sweet stuff:

Paleo Sweets
Dried fruits (no more than 2 ounces a day, particularly if you are trying to lose weight)
Nuts mixed with dried and fresh fruits (no more than 4 ounces of nuts and 2 ounces of dried fruit a day, particularly if you are trying to lose weight)

I do know the bulk sections at all grocery stores have a wide selection of nuts and dried fruits. Please take the time to read the labels, just make sure there is no sugar in there. They have organice binds, however the cost is a little more. Here is how I justify that, just a few thougths:

  • Its Easter….it happens 1x/yr
  • Your health is worth it
  • Pay the doc or pay the farmer?

This is just a few thoughts of mine. If you and your family do BIG Easter dinner/lunches don’t forget about the choices you make and how it will effect you the rest of the day and your workout the following day? Just make smart choices for you and your kids (you set the example). Do they really need that much candy?

How cool would it be for the kids to look forward to getting healthy “stuff” in their baskets instead of processed sugar, that no telling what it is doing to their insides. Do you think there will ever be a day?
