Project X Coach’s Guide

Project X Coach’s Guide

How to coach a group through

Project X

Nutritional challenges are great for many reasons. As an athlete/client/victim it is a great way to meet new people in your gym, you have multiple accountability partners, a guided opportunity to have help to meet your goals or get you back on track.  Personal Trainer/Coaches, nutritional challenges are also great for you to lead. You get to connect with your athletes/clients/victims on a personal level (especially if they are not directly your athletes), its a way to be a part of and help someone reach their nutritional goals (who do you think they are going to refer their friends and family to if they get great results), you get to talk about an area you know a lot about (if they have a great experience, who are they going to want to hire as a nutritional coach after the challenge?), plus its a way to earn a little extra income.

Below are a few concepts to consider when running a nutritional challenge (more can be found in the guide).

  • Price. I personally like to offer 2 different prices when running a challenge. There is a difference in price between the 2 tracks.
    • “Track A” includes just the handouts from the challenge as well as the initial, half way (optional), and final body comps. As well as access to the private Facebook group.
    • “Track B” is the accountability track. Not only do the athlete/client/victim receive the handouts, body comp check ins and access to the private Facebook group like Track A, but I read their food logs on the regular/daily leaving comments based on their goals and even contacted them via phone/text 1-3x/wk. I will say I saw the most results from those following Track B.
  • Meetings. One of the challenges I ran we meet as a group 1x/wk. I had a topic for us to discuss. I would educate them on the topic and then we would have a discussion about the topic (i.e. macros, bars, etc). The discussions were always great and even I learned something, but there was always someone who couldn’t make it and they were left out or wanted to meet with you personally to catch up. I always felt bad for someone who couldn’t make the meeting and even worse when we couldn’t figure out a time to “catch up”. So that only lasted one round of challenges. However I ALWAYS do the one on ones in person. I block off 1hour for the initial meeting (sometimes it takes that long), 1/2 hour for the half way point and based on the initial meeting and what track they are on half an hour to one hour for the final meeting.
  • Tools. Things you are going to want to be familiar with Facebook groups, email, social media, google docs, text messaging, even mailchimp. I used all of these on the daily when hosting/leading a nutritional challenge.

Project X was created from the many variations of nutritional challenges I have lead with athletes/clients/victims. Its a combination of all the documents, guidelines, emails etc that were sent out and or posted. I just combined them into one big document/project and called it Project X because X can be anything to anyone. It is the perfect program to use for a nutritional challenge in your facility or with your clients.

However, keeping up with many athletes can be a little overwhelming at times. Lucky for you I’m type A and I like checklist because they help keep me on track when my mind is going a zillion miles and hour in different directions. Therefore I have created this guide for PT/Coaches to use when leading a group of athletes/clients/victims through a Project X Challenge. You can click on the image to download (or save to your pinterest board) your FREE Coach’s guide to Project X.

It will tell you what to do:

  • 4-6 Weeks out of Day 1
  • 4 weeks out from Day 1
  • 1 Week prior to Day 1
  • Bouns Actions
  • What exactly to do on days 1-28 of the challenge as well as after.

Just incase you missed it, here is a recap of what went up last week! The Project X Coach’s Guide will be up later today!

Below is what the crew is eating this week! Click HERE (or on the chef’s hat above) to see more details on the meals and how to order 🙂

Also, here is a recap of my FitBit steps since I’m in a challenge with a few of you 🙂 Also I learned that the sleep doesn’t carry over if you go back and screen shot your days. Meaning, yes Saturday night I did get 12+hrs of sleep, that just didn’t happen on Mon-Friday evenings (ignore my sleeping habits, they need some work) even though it shows on the picture. I’ll do better in the future to take a screen shot when I go to bed to show that. Happy Stepping!

My Fitbit Review

My Fitbit Review

My thoughts on Fitbit and why you should use it over the other fitness trackers.

Disclosure: Post contains affiliate links to a product that I have researched or currently use.

I joined Fitbit back at the beginning of August thanks to my sister (you can read about that HERE). I got one as one more way to stay connect to her (we live seven hours apart), but I have since then started using it with my clients (you can read about their thoughts HERE) and it actually has become a lot of fun. Below are my personal thoughts.

  1. What is Fitbit? Fitbit is a wearable fitness tracking device that motivates you to reach your health and fitness goals by tracking your activity, exercise, sleep, weight and more. There are a few different versions of this device. I currently have the Flex 2. I also wear it on my ankle versus my wrist.
  2. How did you find out about Fitbit? Working in the health and fitness world I haveheard of Fitbit. A few of my athletes/clients/victims use them, but I wasn’t engaged with them. One of my athletes would send me his stats weekly. Which as a trainer I liked because I could see his sleep.
  3. Why did I feel the need to purchase one? I initially purchased one to connect with my sister and do fun challenges with her and her in-laws. Which I currently still take part in. I also like to mix technology/gadgets and fitness so the Fitbit seemed like a great place to start.
  4. How much did it cost? Is that reasonable? I paid $59.95 for my Flex 2. For all that it does I believe that is very reasonable.
  5. Who can use a Fitbit? ANYONE, which is why I like it! I have a wide age range of clients using fitbits that are all in the same challenge. One of the cool things about fitbit is the accessories. They have many different ways to “dress up” your Fitbit. I’m in the fitness world so wearing an athletic looking device on my ankle is no thing, BUT if you are in an office and/or meeting with clients, you can dress it up with covers, such as a magnetic shoe or belt clip, a necklace, or even making it a bangle
  6. What are some positive and negatives? As you can see I’m a pretty big fan of Fitbit so I have a lot of positives. I haven’t talked about the Fitbit App which is done so beautifully. It is clean and easy to see and navigate around (see images below). The only real negative I have is that the battery life isn’t as long as I wish it would. I have to charge it 1-2x a week.
  7. How do I use the product? Benefits? When you order your Fitbit, it comes with 2 different size bands. I use the large band and wear mine on my ankle. The device is a small rectangle like thing and can be inner changed in different wearable devices (see above for examples). I really believe that having it on my ankle is more accurate than my wrist. There are days when I think I’m super active but I’ll look at my FitBit and see what I have very little steps so I will make sure to get up and do more.
  8. Why should people purchase a Fitbit? If you are a personal trainer, this is a GREAT way to connect with your clients/athletes and build a community with them. If you are just looking for a way to track activity & sleep this is perfect too. It is durable and tracks accurately (I think).  You can also log food and water on there too, something I should be better at doing.

PS She works with Alexa 🙂 Just ask Alexa, any of the following: (You are welcome, LOL)

  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I”m doing today”
  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I slept last night”
  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how many steps I’ve taken”
