Wurst Games Recap

Wurst Games Recap

This past Saturday, Oct. 26th, 2013 Taylor, Teo, Rabah and myself took on Alpha Crossfit’s Wurst Games in New Braunfels, TX as well as a handful more of Crossfit Central’s athletes (I think we had 3 teams of 4 out there as well as spectators…see pic below).

Alpha Crossfit (beautiful box I might add) did a great job at hosting this (their first) event. Opening Ceremony was great and there was a strong dedication to our soldiers. The staff/volunteers were very helpful and very nice. Judging was very fair too. WODs went like so…

WOD “A”

10 Minute AMRAP of:

5 Cleans 135 / 75

20 Double Unders

Male 1 – 5 Cleans

Male 2 – 20 DU

Female 1 – 5 Cleans

Female 2 – 20 DU

Round 2 the team mates will switch

Male 2 – 5 Cleans

Male 1 – 20 DU

Female 2 – 5 Cleans

Female 1 – 20 DU

Continue for the allotted time

Teo played Male 1, Rabah Male 2, Karen Female 1, and Taylor Female 2. The hardest part about this WOD was making sure I went to the right movement and began at the correct time. I just knew I went after Rabah and did the opposite of what he was doing. Weight was light and reps were low so we had to move quick and transitions had to be smooth…and they were!

WOD “B”

15 KB Swings 53 / 35

Partner Run 300 meters

Two teammates (your choice) will perform 15 swings each then run 300 meters together, the first two team member must return to the start line, then the other two teammates will perform 15 swings each then run 300 meters together, X 2 Rounds

Since sprinting isn’t my thing, I was a little worried about this one. I honestly can say that this is the only WOD of the day I warmed up for…no one likes a pulled hamstring, LOL! Taylor and I were partners and the boys were partners. I started on the bell so I could have some rest before sprinting the 300m. Taylor finished her swings and we took off…first ones to hit the run in our heat. Thank goodness for Taylor on this one, she pulled me through the 300m. At about 200m we had a gentleman TRY to keep up, but we left him in the dust. Nice try. We set a great lead for the boys to come in and DOMINATE! They are both GREAT runners and it showed. When they returned, we maintained the lead and the boys finished giving us a time of 7:04 as well as taking 1st place in the WOD! Whoo Hoo!

WOD “C”

15 Minute AMRAP

10 Reps per exercise of:

Wall Balls 20 / 15# everyone to a 10ft target

Toes to Bar

Hand Release Burpee

Box Jumps

Double Unders

Waterfall: Teammate 1 will perform 10 wall balls, then move on to toes to bar.  Teammate 2 may begin their wall balls as soon as teammate 1 has completed their wall balls and may not move on to toes to bar until Teammate 1 has completed their toes to bar…. And so on

This one was a dooze thats for sure. You started out with wall ball. not with a dynamax ball, but with the sandball pictured above. Yikes! Once you got a rhythm, you were okay, but you were VERY close to the wall, something I’m not use to honestly…and I’m pretty darn good at wall balls. After that you went to T2B. I was a little nervous that I was going to have to break this up, especially since we got a skinny bar (the bars on the rig were all different circumferences…which was a great idea if you ask me). Some how I managed to do 10 UB T2B with no problem….totally surprising myself. After that  you went to burpees. Not “normal” burpees, but they were hand release (at bottom) but no jump at top, just a clap overhead. Talk about messing with your rhythm, however once I got the hang of it, I was okay because we had box jumps and DUs to come. They had a great que for box jumps, “Land and Stand”. I jumped on and stepped off. After that we went to DU…but just 10 this time. Back to wall ball…I’m not sure how we did on this WOD the scores were/are not posted yet. I’ll let you know as soon as I do.

All in all it was a great competition…We finished 5th..had a GREAT time…and celebrated afterwards!

I just want to say HUGE congrats to Rabah for fearlessly entering and taking on his 1st crossfit competition! At the end he was still standing, breathing and ready for the next one. He is a great person to have on your team and I look forward to competing with him again! Well done Rabah!
