There are 3 “topical agents” that I keep in my training bag and use quite regular. I’m pretty sure most of them were recommended to me by the best acupuncturist in the world, Rachelle Webb (seriously, book an appt with her if you make it to ATX). I highly recommend you look into adding these products to your workout bag you won’t regret it.
Arnica Gel
According to WEBMD Arnica Gel is “an herb that grows in Europe and the U.S. It’s often used as a skin treatment for bruises, aches, and pains”. You can use the link and read more on it, but I seriously put it on EVERYTHING. If I wake up and something kinda aches…maybe I did a zillion of pull ups the day before and my elbows are a little sore…I apply arnica gel to my joint. If I slept wrong and my shoulder is a little “crunchy” or lacks mobility…arnica gel. With all the upside down movements we are doing with Regional training, I apply arnica gel to my wrist almost daily. Get a bruise because you missed a box jump, or you kept the bar so close to your shins on a lift it bruised/scraped you…arnica gel. Highly recommended!
Zheng Gu Shui
According to Wikipedia, zheng gu shui “is a bone setting solution used in Traditional Chinese Medicine” and “was used to heal fractures and broken bones and injuries suffered in combat”. I honestly do not know the chemistry behind it accept that it works. If I have worn out my shoulder but still need it to do push press, I apply it. If my back is sore from heavy deadlifts we did the day prior, I apply it. I know Rachelle applies it during my treatment sessions with her. This stuff works MAGIC!
Super Salve
This is the BEST thing for rips…better than climb on. If I rip on muscle ups I know I can apply this and it will be better in less than 2 days, not kidding. Yes it is green and yes it does look a little gross, but it not only makes your rip better but it smells nice too. If you are in ATX I found mine at The Herb Bar off Mary street (they have a lot of random stuff in there).
