…THANK GOODNESS. Okay, It wasn’t that bad but I do feel like my training has to slow down because of it. Workouts came out on Thursday, Coaches/1pm Crew did them Friday. You didn’t want to go too hard over the weekend incase you have to redo the workout on Monday. You train hard Monday and Tuesday but careful don’t rip your hands, Wednesday you train but not to hard, Thursday is rest and it starts all over. NOW its just training…GAME TIME!

14.5 Was a “format” I honestly thought we would never see in The Open. There wasn’t a time cut off, you just kept going until you finished. I think they said, “You will complete 168 reps, or you will die trying”….something like that any ways. Like we have done for the past 4 Thursdays, we all gathered and watched the release of the WOD. After we watched the best of the best go, I spoke with Coach Winchester about the best way for me to approach/attack this. We decided to break up the thrusters for 21-18-15 and go unbroken on 12-9-6-3 but do all burpees unbroken. I was like okay, deal…I can do that. Since it was the last Open WOD, we decided to do it all together….GGRX + Coaches + Athletes….on Saturday heats starting at noon. I was use to doing it on Friday with the 1pm crew, so this threw a kink in the schedule…and of course I gripped and of course it turned out okay LOL!
Saturday morning I coached the Crossfit Central Women’s Only Workout (always a good time) then started to warm up for 14.5! I signed up for Heat 2 (thank you Ingrid for the organization of the heats that ran 20 athletes deep). Since my parents were in town they were able to come down for the madness; Which was super cool because Mom had already done the workout…in 27:59…so proud! Also, Sarah Pierce (aka, cousin Sarah)…whom I met at Fittest Games was in town checking out this beautiful city for a possible new home. She did the workout with us and in my heat. And like I have for the other WODs I had the best looking camera man, Mr. Rabah Rahil of Rabah Rahil Photography filming me.
I had a plan of breaking up the thrusters for the set of 21-18-15 then 12-9-6-3 unbroken. During warm up with the greatest crossfitters in my book…Carey Kepler and Lisa Thiel….I was convinced NOT to break it up. 20mins before 3-2-1 GO I was HIGHLY considering changing my plan. Carey described it by saying, “Don’t Do the THRUSTER (aka super fast)” but to “Do.The.Thruster.” (aka pace), but make them all UB. I continued to consider this as I warmed up. I decided why not. If it starts to get rough, I will start to break it up. I lined up by Lisa, Carey, Ingrid and Sarah. I had my best friend/teammate judging and my parents (and many others) cheering me on. At 3-2-1 GO…I grabbed that bar and “Did.The.Thruster.”.
I then did STEP burpees to catch my breath and keep my heart rate low. I stood up and grabbed the bar and “did.the.thruster”…unbroken. I continued this pattern for the remaining of the reps…all 168 of them. HUGE thanks to Jess for keeping me on pace. Telling me I had to move and reminding me to breath and slow my heart rate. I could hear my parents and Rabah yelling at me to move which was also HUGE. I called TIME at 10:08. Coach predicted 10:30…screw that.
I’m VERY thankful for the confidence my fellow teammates had in me and my ability to go unbroken on the thrusters. I’m also very thankful for the community and the energy they provided for that workout. Even after all my griping, doing 14.5 on Saturday with everyone was alot of fun…plus we had a great BBQ afterwards! I’m looking forward to what the future holds!
Daddy Funny: My parents have always supported and attended as may of my sporting events as possible. My mom is a little more into it than my Dad…but how can you blame him, sitting/standing FOREVER to watch your daughter lift 9 times in a 10hr period (powerlifting), pass by you for 10 secs in a 4hr period (marathons) or you see 3x in the course of 2 hours (triathlons). I can remember 2 years ago at regionals my daddy came to watch, Day 1, WOD 1 (Diane) my dad was cheering from the stands of the balcony…by the end of the 3 day event, the last WOD he was standing in front of me shaking his blue powerade bottle cheering me on. So after 14.5 when I could speak, I walked over to my Dad and said, “so Daddy what did you think?” his response, “I think you have alot of friends”. LOL! This was so funny to me and made me feel super blessed and EXTREMELY proud of my community and the support they provide. THANK YOU!
