My thoughts on Fitbit and why you should use it over the other fitness trackers.

I joined Fitbit back at the beginning of August thanks to my sister (you can read about that HERE). I got one as one more way to stay connect to her (we live seven hours apart), but I have since then started using it with my clients (you can read about their thoughts HERE) and it actually has become a lot of fun. Below are my personal thoughts.

  1. What is Fitbit? Fitbit is a wearable fitness tracking device that motivates you to reach your health and fitness goals by tracking your activity, exercise, sleep, weight and more. There are a few different versions of this device. I currently have the Flex 2. I also wear it on my ankle versus my wrist.
  2. How did you find out about Fitbit? Working in the health and fitness world I haveheard of Fitbit. A few of my athletes/clients/victims use them, but I wasn’t engaged with them. One of my athletes would send me his stats weekly. Which as a trainer I liked because I could see his sleep.
  3. Why did I feel the need to purchase one? I initially purchased one to connect with my sister and do fun challenges with her and her in-laws. Which I currently still take part in. I also like to mix technology/gadgets and fitness so the Fitbit seemed like a great place to start.
  4. How much did it cost? Is that reasonable? I paid $59.95 for my Flex 2. For all that it does I believe that is very reasonable.
  5. Who can use a Fitbit? ANYONE, which is why I like it! I have a wide age range of clients using fitbits that are all in the same challenge. One of the cool things about fitbit is the accessories. They have many different ways to “dress up” your Fitbit. I’m in the fitness world so wearing an athletic looking device on my ankle is no thing, BUT if you are in an office and/or meeting with clients, you can dress it up with covers, such as a magnetic shoe or belt clip, a necklace, or even making it a bangle
  6. What are some positive and negatives? As you can see I’m a pretty big fan of Fitbit so I have a lot of positives. I haven’t talked about the Fitbit App which is done so beautifully. It is clean and easy to see and navigate around (see images below). The only real negative I have is that the battery life isn’t as long as I wish it would. I have to charge it 1-2x a week.
  7. How do I use the product? Benefits? When you order your Fitbit, it comes with 2 different size bands. I use the large band and wear mine on my ankle. The device is a small rectangle like thing and can be inner changed in different wearable devices (see above for examples). I really believe that having it on my ankle is more accurate than my wrist. There are days when I think I’m super active but I’ll look at my FitBit and see what I have very little steps so I will make sure to get up and do more.
  8. Why should people purchase a Fitbit? If you are a personal trainer, this is a GREAT way to connect with your clients/athletes and build a community with them. If you are just looking for a way to track activity & sleep this is perfect too. It is durable and tracks accurately (I think).  You can also log food and water on there too, something I should be better at doing.

PS She works with Alexa 🙂 Just ask Alexa, any of the following: (You are welcome, LOL)

  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I”m doing today”
  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how I slept last night”
  • “Alexa, ask Fitbit how many steps I’ve taken”
